My friend, Josh, is a teacher.
In fact, he is an English teacher.
He is American. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
He lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and he teaches English to Brazilians.
He teaches private English classes to adults.
Most of his students are professionals.
He teaches many students from many different professions.
He has students who are lawyers and judges.
Some of his students work in the music industry.
Other students are computer engineers.
One of his students is a director at Coca-Cola.
His favorite student is an Equestrian Veterinarian - she is a special animal doctor who takes care of horses!
Most of his students want to improve their English for their jobs.
But some of his students are retired people.
They do not work anymore, but they want to learn English because they like to travel.
So they talk a lot about movies, the theater, travel and food.
He and his students talk about many different things.
He needs to know a little about many different subjects.
His classes last for one hour.
Usually his students have one class per week.
Some have two classes per week.
He is expensive ($$$), but he is very good at his job.
His goal as a teacher is to make his students feel comfortable when they speak English.
When his students feel more comfortable speaking English, they become more confident when they speak English.
When a student feels more confident speaking English, they become more competent in English.
He calls this process “The 3 C’s: Comfortable, Confident, Competent”
He loves his job as an English teacher.
