CHAPTER FOUR

THE MERMAID'S LAGOON

One summer evening Peter, Wendy, John, Michael and the Lost Boys go to the Mermaid's Lagoon. Beautiful mermaids live here and they are Peter's friends. They swim and play in the blue lagoon. Then they sit on Marooner's Rock to comb their long hair. They sit in the sun and laugh.

The children like the mermaids and John says, 'I want to catch one!' He tries, but the mermaid jumps into the water.

Peter says, 'It is very difficult to catch a mermaid.' Suddenly someone says, 'Look, the pirates are coming!'

A small boat with two pirates is coming to the lagoon. John, Michael and the Lost Boys jump off the rock and swim away. But Wendy stays with Peter. They hide behind the rock. Peter sees Tiger Lily. She is sitting in the small boat. Poor Tiger Lily is a prisoner of the pirates.

'Let's leave her on this rock. When the sea rises, she will die!' says Smee. The two pirates laugh. It is already night and it is very dark.

Peter wants to save Tiger Lily and thinks of something intelligent. He imitates Captain Hook's voice and says, 'Cut the ropes and let her go! Do as I say, you idiots! Let her go!' The two pirates are amazed.

'Can you hear Hook's voice?' asks Smee.

'Yes, but what do we do?' asks Starkey.

'We must obey him and cut the ropes,' says Smee.

They cut the ropes and Tiger Lily is free. She quickly jumps into the water and swims away.

Captain Hook sees everything and he is furious.

'That horrid Peter Pan! This time I must attack him,' he says. He swims to the rock and fights with Peter. It is a long fight.

The Captain hurts Peter with his hook, but Peter fights courageously. At last, Peter wins the fight and Hook swims back to the Jolly Roger. Peter is now alone on the rock with Wendy.

'The sea is rising and we are in great danger here. We must leave this rock,' says Peter. 'Oh, Peter, I am very tired and I cannot swim or fly.'

He sees a big kite with a long tail. It is flying slowly over the lagoon. He takes the tail of the kite and says, 'Wendy, hold on to this tail and fly away with the kite.' Wendy flies away.

'The sea is rising. I must fly away,' Peter thinks. When he gets home everyone is happy to see him, especially Wendy.

A LAGOA DAS SEREIAS

One summer evening Peter, Wendy, John, Michael and the Lost Boys go to the Mermaid's Lagoon.

Em uma noite de verão Peter, Wendy, John, Michael e os Meninos Perdidos vão para a Lagoa das Sereias.

Beautiful mermaids live here and they are Peter's friends. They swim and play in the blue lagoon.

Sereias lindas moram aqui e elas são amigas do Peter. Elas nadam e brincam na lagoa azul.

Then they sit on Marooner's Rock to comb their long hair. They sit in the sun and laugh.

Depois elas sentam na Marooner's Rock para pentear os seus longos cabelos. Elas sentam no sol e riem.

The children like the mermaids and John says, 'I want to catch one!' He tries, but the mermaid jumps into the water.

As crianças gostam das sereias e John diz,‘ Eu quero capturar uma!’ Ele tenta mas, as sereias pulam para dentro da água.

Peter says, 'It is very difficult to catch a mermaid.'

Peter diz, ‘É muito difícil capturar uma sereia.’

Suddenly someone says, 'Look, the pirates are coming!'

De repente alguém diz, 'Olha, os piratas estão vindo!'

A small boat with two pirates is coming to the lagoon.

Um pequeno barco com dois piratas está vindo para a Lagoa.

John, Michael and the Lost Boys jump off the rock and swim away.

John,Michael e os Meninos Perdidos pulam da pedra e nadam para longe.

But Wendy stays with Peter. They hide behind the rock.

Mas Wendy fica com Peter. Eles se escondem atrás da pedra.

Peter sees Tiger Lily. She is sitting in the small boat.

Peter vê a Tiger Lily. Ela está sentada no pequeno barco.

Poor Tiger Lily is a prisoner of the pirates.

Pobre Tiger Lily é uma prisioneira dos piratas.

'Let's leave her on this rock. When the sea rises, she will die!' says Smee. The two pirates laugh.

‘Vamos deixar ela nessa pedra. Quando a maré subir, ela morrerá!' diz Smee. Os dois piratas riem.

It is already night and it is very dark.

Já é noite e está muito escuro.

Peter wants to save Tiger Lily and thinks of something intelligent.

Peter quer salvar Tiger Lily e pensa em algo inteligente.

He imitates Captain Hook's voice and says, 'Cut the ropes and let her go! Do as I say, you idiots! Let her go!' The two pirates are amazed.

Ele imita a voz do Capitão Gancho e diz, ‘Corta as cordas e solta ela! Faça o que eu peço, seus idiotas! Solte ela!' Os dois piratas estão impressionados.

'Can you hear Hook's voice?' asks Smee.

Você consegue ouvir a voz do Gancho?' Pergunta Smee.

'Yes, but what do we do?' asks Starkey.

‘Sim, mas o que fazemos?' pergunta Starkey

'We must obey him and cut the ropes,' says Smee.

‘Devemos obedecê-lo e cortar as cordas,’ diz Smee.

They cut the ropes and Tiger Lily is free.

Eles cortam as cordas e Tiger Lily está solta.

She quickly jumps into the water and swims away.

Ela rapidamente pula para dentro da água e nada para longe.

Captain Hook sees everything and he is furious.

Capitão Gancho vê tudo e ele está furioso.

'That horrid Peter Pan! This time I must attack him,' he says.

‘Esse Peter Pan horrendo! Esta vez eu tenho que atacar ele,’ diz ele.

He swims to the rock and fights with Peter. It is a long fight.

Ele nada de volta para a pedra e luta com Peter. É uma luta longa.

The Captain hurts Peter with his hook, but Peter fights courageously.

O Capitão machuca Peter com o seu gancho, mas Peter luta corajosamente.

At last, Peter wins the fight and Hook swims back to the Jolly Roger.

Por fim, Peter ganha a luta e Gancho nada de volta ao Jolly Roger.

Peter is now alone on the rock with Wendy.

Peter está sozinho agora na pedra com Wendy.

'The sea is rising and we are in great danger here. We must leave this rock,' says Peter.

‘A maré está subindo e estamos em grande perigo aqui. Temos que sair desta pedra,’ diz Peter.

'Oh, Peter, I am very tired and I cannot swim or fly.'

‘Oh, Peter, eu estou muito cansada e eu não posso nadar nem voar.’

He sees a big kite with a long tail. It is flying slowly over the lagoon.

Ele vê uma grande pipa com uma cauda longa. Ela está voando devagar por cima da lagoa.

He takes the tail of the kite and says, 'Wendy, hold on to this tail and fly away with the kite.' Wendy flies away.

Ele pega a cauda da pipa e diz, ‘Wendy, segure nessa cauda e voe para longe com a pipa.’ Wendy sai voando.

'The sea is rising. I must fly away,' Peter thinks.

‘O mar está subindo. Eu tenho que sair voando,’ pensa Peter.

When he gets home everyone is happy to see him, especially Wendy.

Quando ele chega em casa todo mundo está feliz em vê-lo, especialmente Wendy.
