During a 250 thousand-strong march on Washington in 1963, King delivered an inspirational speech, one that remains one of the most famous speeches in American history. 

Durante um grande protesto de 250 mil pessoas em Washington, D.C., em 1963, King fez um discurso inspiracional, um que ainda hoje é um dos discursos mais famosos da história americana.

50 years later, one has to consider just how far the civil rights movement in America has come. As the Supreme Court moves to strike down key provisions of the Voting Rights Act, many states have taken swift action to implement restrictive voting laws, effectively suppressing the vote for many minority voters. Democracy is under attack. 

50 anos depois, temos que considerar até que ponto o movimento dos direitos civis nos Estados Unidos chegou. O Tribunal Supremo Federal americano pretende remover provisões importantes no Ato dos Direitos de Votação, e muito estados tomaram decisões de implementar leis que dificultam a votação nas urnas, basicamente impedindo o voto para muitas votantes das minorias sociais. A democracia está sofrendo um ataque.

This is our hope. This is the faith that I go back to the South with. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day. (Essa é a nossa esperança. This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with a new meaning, "My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring." (Esse será o dia, esse será o dia quando todos os filhos de Deus poderão cantar com um novo significado: Meu país é teu, doce terra da liberdade, de ti eu canto. And if America is to be a great nation this must become true. So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.
