CHAPTER FOUR

The flower

On the fifth day, the little prince said, "Sheep eat small trees, I know. Do they eat flowers, too?"

My work on my plane was very difficult and I did not want to talk. I had to worrk on it quickly because I had a big problem. I did not have much water and I was always thirsty. I needed more water. I answered quickly, "Sheep eat lots of different things."

"But do they eat flowers?" he asked.

"Yes! No! I don't know," I shouted. "It's not important!"

"What do you mean, 'not important'?" he said. "Of course it's important!" His face was white and he looked very worried.

"I have a beautiful flower on my planet. She's my special flower and I look after her," he said. "I don't want your sheep to eat my flower!"

Then the little prince started to cry and I became worried. It was dark now. I forgot about my plane. And I was not thirsty. I wanted to cry, too. I held him in my arms and I said to him, "I can help you. I can draw a muzzle for the sheep. It will cover the sheep's mouth. Then the sheep cannot eat your flower."

"Thank you," said the little prince. He was better now and I started to work on my plane again. He talked and I learned a lot about his flower. There were other flowers on his planet, but this flower was special.

"She's beautiful and I love her," he said. '"Look after me,' she said to me. And I looked after her every day."

The little prince looked after her and he looked after the planet, too.

He gave the flower water and he covered her with glass every night. But she did not often say "thank you".

The little prince became angry with the flower because she was never happy. And she was often angry with him.

Then the little prince told me very sadly, "One day, my flower said to me, 'Don't look after me. I don't need you!"'

This made me sad. I stopped my work on the plane again and looked at the little prince.

"I left my planet because my flower didn't need me," he said. "On my last day there, I cleaned my volcanoes and I gave water to her. She said to me, 'Don't cover me. I don't need a cover.' I was surprised, but I didn't cover her. Then she said, 'I love you, you know, but I don't need you. Go away now.' I was very sad and she was very sad. 'Goodbye,' I said to her. But she did not speak to me again."

Then he said, "I know something now. Her words were angry, but they weren't important. She made me happy because she was beautiful. And that was important. I was too young to understand."

Capítulo Quatro

THE FLOWER
A Flor

On the fifth day, the little prince said, "Sheep eat small trees, I know. Do they eat flowers, too?"

No quinto dia, o pequeno príncipe disse, “Ovelhas comem árvores pequenas, eu sei. Elas também comem flores?

My work on my plane was very difficult and I did not want to talk.

Meu trabalho (conserto) no meu avião estava muito difícil e eu não queria falar. 

I had to work on it quickly because I had a big problem.

Eu tinha que trabalhar nele rapidamente porque eu tinha um grande problema. 

I did not have much water and I was always thirsty. I needed more water. I answered quickly, "Sheep eat lots of different things."

Eu não tinha muita água e eu sempre estava com sede. Eu precisava de mais água. Eu respondi rapidamente, “Ovelhas comem muitas coisas diferentes.”

"But do they eat flowers?" he asked.

“Mas elas comem flores?” ele perguntou.

"Yes! No! I don't know," I shouted. "It's not important!"

“Sim! Não! Eu não sei,” eu gritei. “Isso não é importante!”

"What do you mean, 'not important'?" he said. "Of course it's important!" His face was white and he looked very worried.

“O que você quer dizer, ‘não é importante’?” ele disse. “Claro que é importante!” Seu rosto estava branca e ele parecia muito preocupado.

"I have a beautiful flower on my planet. She's my special flower and I look after her," he said. "I don't want your sheep to eat my flower!"

“Eu tenho uma linda flor no meu planeta. Ela é minha flor especial e eu cuido dela,” ele disse. Eu não quero que sua ovelha coma minha flor!”

Then the little prince started to cry and I became worried. It was dark now.

Então o pequeno príncipe começou a chorar e eu fiquei preocupado. Estava escuro agora.

I forgot about my plane. And I was not thirsty. I wanted to cry, too.

Eu esqueci do meu avião. E eu não estava com sede. Eu queria chorar, também.

I held him in my arms and I said to him, "I can help you. I can draw a muzzle for the sheep. It will cover the sheep's mouth. Then the sheep cannot eat your flower."

Eu o segurei em meus braços e disse a ele, “Eu posso te ajudar. Eu posso desenhar uma focinheira para a ovelha. Ela vai cobrir a boca da ovelha. E aí a ovelha não pode comer sua flor.”

"Thank you," said the little prince. He was better now and I started to work on my plane again.

“Obrigada,” disse o pequeno príncipe. Ele estava melhor agora e eu comecei a trabalhar no meu avião de novo. 

He talked and I learned a lot about his flower.

Ele falava e eu aprendia muito sobre sua flor. 

There were other flowers on his planet, but this flower was special.

Existiam outras flores em seu planeta, mas essa flor era especial.

"She's beautiful and I love her," he said. '"Look after me,' she said to me. And I looked after her every day."

“Ela é linda e eu a amo,“ disse ele. “‘Cuide de mim,’ ela disse pra mim. E eu cuidei dela todos os dias.”

The little prince looked after her and he looked after the planet, too.

O pequeno príncipe cuidava dela e cuidava do planeta, também.

He gave the flower water and he covered her with glass every night. But she did not often say "thank you".

Ele dava água para a flor e cobria ela com vidro toda noite. Mas ela não falava “obrigada” com frequência.

The little prince became angry with the flower because she was never happy. And she was often angry with him.

O pequeno príncipe ficou zangado com a flor porque ela nunca estava feliz. E ela estava frequentemente zangada com ele.

Then the little prince told me very sadly, "One day, my flower said to me, 'Don't look after me. I don't need you!"'

Então o pequeno príncipe me contou muito triste, "Um dia, minha flor me disse, 'Não cuide de mim. Eu não preciso de você!'"

This made me sad. I stopped my work on the plane again and looked at the little prince.

Isso me deixou triste. Eu parei meu trabalho no avião novamente e olhei para o pequeno príncipe.

"I left my planet because my flower didn't need me," he said.

"Eu deixei meu planeta porque minha flor não precisava de mim," ele disse.

"On my last day there, I cleaned my volcanoes and I gave water to her. She said to me, 'Don't cover me. I don't need a cover.'

"Em meu último dia lá, eu limpei meus vulcões e dei água para ela. Ela me disse, 'Não me cubra. Eu não preciso de uma redoma.' 

I was surprised, but I didn't cover her. Then she said, 'I love you, you know, but I don't need you. Go away now.'

Eu fiquei surpreso, mas não a cobri. Então ela disse, ‘Eu te amo, você sabe, mas eu não preciso de você. Pode ir embora agora.' 

I was very sad and she was very sad. 'Goodbye,' I said to her.  But she did not speak to me again."

Eu estava muito triste e ela estava muito triste. 'Adeus,' eu disse a ela. Mas ela não falou comigo novamente."

Then he said, "I know something now. Her words were angry, but they weren't important.

Então ele disse, "Eu sei algo agora. Suas palavras eram duras, mas não eram importantes.

She made me happy because she was beautiful. And that was important. I was too young to understand."

Ela me fez feliz porque ela era bonita. E isso era importante. Eu era muito jovem para entender."
